Kiewit, the construction firm leading the Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE) Project, required an ample, functional space to manage daily operations for one of New York’s most significant renewable energy infrastructure initiatives.

The CHPE Project spans 339 miles of fully buried transmission line designed to deliver clean hydropower from Canada to New York City.

Unique Features
Cassone designed and built a two-story iBox modular complex measuring 72 by 60 feet, constructed from 54 modular units totaling 8,640 square feet. The second floor features a wide-open meeting and training room supported by central pillars for structural stability, along with private offices, conference rooms, and cubicle areas. To complete the modular campus, Cassone also provided a 36-by-64-foot custom building, a 24-by-64-foot custom building, two iBox bathroom pods, and multiple single-wide units. Together, these structures offer a comprehensive, fully functional workspace for the Kiewit project team.

How Cassone Delivered

Challenge

Kiewit needed to establish a large, modern project management headquarters on a site with a limited footprint. The design had to maximize available space through vertical construction while also accommodating a large open training area, a structural challenge with modular units. Additionally, the installation required precise coordination to position more than 50 modules safely and efficiently within the constraints of an active construction environment.

Solution

Cassone’s in-house engineering and design teams developed a stacked modular configuration that maximized usable square footage and provided flexible interior layouts. The project’s second-floor open-plan training room was achieved through reinforced structural design and the inclusion of central support pillars. Cassone’s logistics and installation teams used a boom truck to carefully position each module on site, ensuring accuracy and safety throughout delivery and assembly. Every component was planned to optimize workflow, accessibility, and team collaboration within the space.

Outcome

Cassone delivered a turnkey two-story modular office complex that provides Kiewit with a high-quality, efficient, and comfortable workspace to manage the Champlain Hudson Power Express Project. The completed structure offers expansive meeting and training areas, private offices, and shared workspaces that meet the operational demands of a large-scale infrastructure team. This project demonstrates Cassone’s ability to design, engineer, and deliver complex modular solutions that support mission-critical projects on tight timelines and challenging sites.
